Third Step: How are entrepreneur’s needs covered by current solutions?

There is a lack between entrepreneurial solutions and entrepreneurial needs

We have talked about needs and solutions, but how these needs are covered by the current solutions?

In the table below, you can see the match between types of solutions and needs, scoring from 0 to 5 depending the coverage level of each solution on each need

Analysing the coverage level, we can achieve three main conclusions:

  • Current Solutions are not suited with general entrepreneur’s needs. As we can see, the coverage of needs is very poor and none of the current solutions reach the pass mark if we do the average. But the solutions provide not even cover adequately the need in which they are focused. Many of the solutions do not reach the minimum (3) in any of the needs.
  • All the models have in common that they provide solutions to a certain entrepreneur group, segmented by location, membership or cost, and all of them are focused on a specific need
  • Additionally, all cases (except mentoring programs) have a common element: the absolute relevance of the intermediary. Whether it is a company that seeks its benefit, a political institution that seeks public revenue or a public institution that seeks to enhance its image or prestige, the participation of the intermediary is crucial and begins to play the main role within the ecosystem in which it participates and interferes with the operations carried out on it.

The relevance of the intermediary is so great that, even in collaborative models, it distorts the entire collaborative model, to the point that collaborative model disappears and becomes a mere business in which one party provides a service to another. Consequently, the entrepreneurship models that we had named as “collaboratives” are not but other (more subtle) way of pursuing objectives and interests linked to those who organize them.

The only exception is mentoring programs, and even in this case, belonging to a specific group limits and conditions the model itself. However, once inside the group and once mentor and mentee are linked, the model already maintains almost all the characteristics of a collaborative model.

As a summary, we can see the current situation and the coverage level from existing solutions:

Needs coverage by current entrepreneurial solutions

In the next article we will analyse why market solutions do not bring answers to these needs and which model can cover these not solved needs
